Some Ted Talks Incase You're Bored This Weekend!
They're all pretty good giving you a different perspective on common problems we all have!
I’ve watched these over the last decade and they’ve all struck a chord with me so I thought there’s a lot of value to be shared in these videos.
So here ya go!
Kevin Breel: Confessions of a Depressed Comic
The oxymoron of a depressed comic is a sad reality for Kevin. However, he finds a way to get through the dark times and still have a life and a comedy career. So he gave me a lot of understanding and empathy for myself when I was younger, I was getting depressed, and didn’t know what was happening to me.
Johann Hari: This could be why you’re depressed or anxious
This video gave me self-compassion for myself when all I had was hatred. I thought I was a shit person for being depressed and coping with alcohol. The shame spiral led to years and years of pain, but today my compassion for myself has grown to a point where I feel okay.
Frederik Imbo: How not to take things personally?
Part of the reason I relapsed over and over again was because I would take everything to heart.
If a person at work was mad, it was my fault.
If the guy at the front counter of my gym wasn’t cheerful like normal, he must have found out something shameful about me and hates me, etc.
I tortured myself and still do, just slightly less so.
Now I don’t isolate I try to be social every day in some form, even if it’s an AA meeting or something like that, and I try my best not to even think about what anyone else is doing and focus on what’s being said in the meeting or what’s going on where ever I am.
If you have the same problem this video should help.
Tim Box: How to stop feeling anxious about anxiety
Some people get offended if I give any advice for anxiety because theirs is so debilitating that my advice doesn’t apply to them. If your anxiety makes you feel like you’re dying a run isn’t going to fix it and is probably impossible for you to do anyways, so I get why that stuff could hit a nerve. In that case, I just wish you can remember it passes and you just gotta hold on for a while but it will pass.
But this guy talks about anxiety being a way of your brain telling you what’s important. I guess we could use the AA Serenity Prayer as a guide to decipher when anxiety is useful or it’s just messing you up for no reason.
If you can change what;s causing anxiety then it’s useful and go change it. If you can’t change it, then the anxiety is useless, and maybe you can let go of it.
Anything is worth a try when you suffer from panic attacks. I wish you luck if that’s you.
God grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the Wisdom to know the difference.
The polyphonic me | Beardyman
This one just blew my mind with how talented some people are and how much work he must have put in over the years to be able to do this. It is crazy. I hope you enjoy.
