I’ve often thrown myself lavish pity parties, complaining about my situation in the world, hoping somebody would hear and save me.
Unfortunately, the world doesn’t work that way. The only person who can save you from your current circumstances is the person staring back at you in the mirror.
I’ve wasted years being depressed about the direction my life was going in, my lack of friends, being broke, and anything else that bothered me.
I blamed my past, my family, my friends, the world, and everything else in the world except my dog. The only thing this did was make me a very negative person stuck in a life I hated.
Full-blown accountability means owning up to your stuff, whether it’s good or bad. It means taking full responsibility for one’s actions, decisions, and their consequences, without making excuses or shifting blame to others.
You may not necessarily be responsible for the cards that life dealt you but you are responsible for how you play them.
Taking complete ownership over every aspect of your life is a very powerful thing. Instead of being stuck in the victim mentality you develop the power to change your circumstances.
If you are responsible for your current life circumstances, you can also be responsible for what direction you decide to go in with the rest of your life. Accountability gives you the power to do the tough things you need to do to get where you want in life.
My experience with complete accountability has been my struggle with addiction and mental health.
Doctors couldn’t save me.
Priests couldn’t save me.
Family and friends couldn’t save me.
But I could save me.
I’m a work in progress and this is a new way I am trying to live my life. I’m not responsible for all the bad things that happened to me, the unfortunate luck, the pain inside me.
However, I am responsible for how I handle it.
So from now on, I hold myself completely accountable for everything in my life. When I say I am going to do something I do it.
Only I can create a life for myself and version of me that I deserve.
So true! We are our own savior! Thanks for sharing!
